Parent: House Sitting
Recurring care tasks for the sitter while we’re away. Pool tasks are separate — see pool-handoff.md .
Tasks
- Water the plants.
- Check for the water leak.
- Do a rough house walkthrough every few days.
Plants
TBD: which plants, how often, how much water, where the watering can lives. (Lana to fill in.)
Water leak check
Down the basement stairs, into the utility room at the bottom, take a left. Standing in the doorway looking in, the far right corner has a big cylinder — that’s the hot water heater. Look at the floor around it. It should be dry — it always has been — but it’s a keep-an-eye-on item.
- Any wetness at all → tell Z.
- Active water coming out of the heater or a pipe → shut off the main water valve immediately.
The shutoff valve is just to your right when you’re facing the water heater. It’s a handle you rotate (about 90–180°).
TBD photo — shot: the main water shutoff valve next to the water heater. (Z to provide.)
TBD: confirm exact valve rotation (90° or 180°).
House walkthrough
Walk both upstairs and downstairs. Confirm windows and doors are properly closed and in good shape (not broken). Just a general “everything looks normal” check while someone’s around the house.
Notes
- For how anything in the house works (TV, thermostat, wifi, etc.), see house-guide .
If something looks wrong
Text/call Z. Better too many texts than miss something.
